Not Like The Movies – Part 1

I love the mommie blogging community. I know that there is a lot of information out there and sometimes it hard to discern whats real and whats not, but the mommies (sometimes daddies) are really genuine and helpful. I’ve found them insanely accurate about everything during my pregnancy and it put my hormone ridden state at ease. And yes I’ve heard it from them as well, giving birth is nothing like the movies, but I never read/heard how it was different.

So here goes:
(Disclaimer: This is my first birth, so I have no idea whats typical.) We packed our hospital bags, took a birthing class, made several plans on how we’d get to hospital and intellectually knew that things weren’t going to go as we planned 100%. Twelve days before the estimated date, 0% happened as far as getting to the hospital.

We plan, god baby laughs.

Quick run down of my day:

12p: Yoga
Kicked yoga ass.

2p: Work
Sent out some final docs getting ready to wrap my project up. I’m so ahead of the game, I’ve got weeks!

4p: Walked to Chinatown
It was 2.5 mile walk which I did often before and even during pregnancy but of course now it takes me 90 minutes to do…

5:30p: Visiting my Mom
I was leaking small amounts of clear liquid at her house, did my water break? Nope, what was it? I’m still not sure.

7p: Chinese New Year Dinner
Whew, I wish I could eat more, so good! She’s taking up all the space in my stomach! We took some pictures and said our goodbyes. Then took a 15min cab ride home, and noticed that the bouncing in the car was not comfortable, but was it bad enough that I thought I was beginning to labor? Nah…

9p: Home
As I was milling about tidying up and getting ready for bed I was joking with my husband about our ob basically preparing us for 41 weeks because it’s my first pregnancy and I hadn’t started dilating yet at our last visit. We were prepping ourselves for the eternity of those last couple of weeks. I started to feel some pains and I didn’t want to be that hysterical woman so I kept asking if we thought it was Braxton Hicks. An hour later we called our ob on call. She asked if my water broke and if my mucus plug fell out. Nope, not to my knowledge. Well to be on the safe side just go to the hospital so they can check if your water broke, they’ll probably send you home. Don’t worry about bringing anything. Yea ok…

Spoiler alert: I they didn’t send me home. The actual birth details in Part 2.
